The House of Suns story
House of Suns began with a simple idea: to share the flavours of Chile with the community I now call home.
Inspired by the desserts I grew up eating, House of Suns is a small batch bakery nestled in the Blue Mountains, where traditional Chilean flavours meet homemade baking and a love for bringing people together.
At the heart of many of my bakes is dulce de leche, or manjar, as we call it in Chile. It’s one of the flavours that defines Chilean baking, yet it’s still something many Australians are discovering for the first time. Sharing that part of my culture has become one of the greatest joys of this little bakery.
My baking is deeply rooted in tradition. Chilean cakes and pastries have been shared around family tables for generations, and many of those recipes are still made today because they’re simply that good. I’m not here to reinvent them or make them unrecognisable. I’m here to honour them, preserve them, and introduce them to people who may never have tasted them before.
The roadside stand was built by hand as a family project, starting with recycled pallets, plenty of enthusiasm and a lot of trust that people would stop by. What began as a simple honesty box bakery has grown into a destination for locals, visitors and people travelling from across Sydney to spend a Saturday morning in the mountains.
For many, a visit to House of Suns has become part of the ritual: a bushwalk, a lookout, a good coffee and something sweet to take along. It’s never just about the cake. It’s about slowing down, connecting with nature, discovering new flavours and sharing them with the people around you.
The name House of Suns is deeply personal. It represents our home, filled with the sunshine of our three children, whose names all carry a connection to the sun in their own way.
To me, it represents warmth, joy and the feeling of gathering together; everything I hope people experience when they visit.
Every cake, biscuit and jar of dulce de leche is handmade in small batches with care, because that’s how I learned food should be shared.
Welcome to House of Suns. I hope you find something here that feels a little like sunshine.
Every cake, alfajor and sweet treat is handmade in small batches, with care, attention to detail and a deep respect for the traditions that inspired them. My hope is that every bite gives you a little glimpse into the flavours I grew up and that when you visit House of Suns you leave with more than something delicious to eat. I hope you feel just a little more connected; to good food, good company and the simple joy of sharing something sweet. That it gives you a moment to slow down, and a reason to come back.
